The latest official data show the Indian economy grew faster than that of China in the first quarter of the year.
Data released on Friday indicated a growth of 7.5 for India, which is a little higher than the 7 percent growth shown by China in the same quarter.
This is widely seen as the result of a successful performance by the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, specifically his efforts to encourage investment friendly policies.
Figures show growth in sectors such as finance, insurance and real estate stood at 11.5 percent over the same period.
Nevertheless, some analysts have expressed doubts about the accuracy of a new method used to measure economic activity.
This became particularly noticeable when the Central Statistics Office of India sharply revised the growth figure down to 6.6 percent from 7.5 percent in the December quarter.
The figure for full-year growth has been recorded at 7.3 percent, up from 6.9 percent in 2013-14. This is while the government in December, using the old methodology, estimated growth for the year would be 5.5 percent.
