At least 25 people have been killed and nearly 30 others injured in two separate road accidents in Egypt, official sources say.

According to Egyptian officials, a bus collided with a truck on a highway linking the capital, Cairo, with the Mediterranean coast on Saturday, killing 13 people and wounding four others.

In another accident later in the day, 12 people lost their lives and 25 others were injured when a bus flipped over near the Red Sea resort town of Hurghada, medical officials said.

Ambulances were at the scenes collecting the bodies of the victims. Medics also rushed the injured to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Egypt, a country that has poorly maintained roads and traffic regulations, is no stranger to such deadly road accidents.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), road accidents kill nearly 12,000 Egyptians a year.
