At least one civilian has been killed and a dozen others injured in two separate mortar attacks by foreign-sponsored militants against residential areas in and around the Syrian capital, Damascus.

A police source, speaking on condition of anonymity, said ten mortar shells slammed into the capital’s southwestern neighborhood of al-Mezzeh in addition to Masaken Barzeh and al-Mazra’a districts and Jahez Park on Tuesday, leaving a civilian dead and seven others injured, Syria’s official SANA news agency reported.

The projectiles also caused damage to several houses and buildings at the residential areas.

Separately, five civilians were injured when seven mortar shells landed onto houses and shops in Harasta city, which lies in the northeastern suburb of Damascus. A baby girl was reportedly among those wounded in the attack.

Foreign-sponsored militants have frequently carried out bomb attacks and launch mortar as well as rocket rounds across Syrian cities and towns since conflict broke out in the Arab country more than four years ago.

On Monday, at least 23 civilians were killed and a number of others, mostly children injured, after Takfiri terrorist groups fired rockets on Aleppo, located about 355 kilometers (220 miles) north of Damascus.

More than 230,000 people, including almost 11,500 children, have reportedly died in the conflict in Syria since March 2011.
