A Saudi officer and three soldiers have been killed in a retaliatory attack carried out by Yemeni forces on Saudi military bases in the south of the kingdom.

Yemen’s al-Masirah TV said Saturday that army forces and revolutionary fighters of the Houthi Ansarullah movement launched an attack on Khabbash military camp in the southern Saudi province of Najran, killing a Saudi colonel and three other soldiers.

The report said Yemeni forces also fired missiles on Nahuqa base in Najran and another base in Jahfan region of Jizan Province.

Over the past few weeks, Yemeni forces have launched numerous attacks on southern Saudi territories in retaliation for the kingdom’s ongoing aggression against the impoverished Arab country.

Dozens of Saudi border guards and soldiers have been killed across the troubled region in recent weeks.

The Saturday attacks came as Ansarullah fighters continued battling militants operating in the south of Yemen.

According to a report by Yemen Press news agency, Ansarullah fighters launched a rocket attack on a dock in Azzit in al-Bariqa region in the southern city of Aden. The attack came after reports said Saudi vessels disembarked a group of supporters of the fugitive former Yemeni president, Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, in Azzit.

Ansarullah fighters also attacked positions of al-Qaeda-linked militants in various parts of Aden.

Meanwhile, reports said Saudi warplanes pounded the headquarters of the Yemeni Army’s 22nd Brigade in the southwestern city of Ta’izz.

Saudi Arabia has been carrying out airstrikes against Yemen since March 26 - without the authorization of the UN - in an attempt to weaken Yemen’s Houthi Ansarullah movement and to restore power to Hadi, a staunch ally of Riyadh. The UN says at least 2,600 people have been killed and 11,000 others wounded due to the conflict in Yemen since March 19.
