A US military complex in Washington, DC, which has been placed on lockdown after reports of an active shooter in the area, is given the all clear.

Authorities confirmed on Thursday that there was no evidence of a shooting, shooter or injured personnel at the Washington Navy Yard, the same place where a gunman shot dead a dozen people nearly two years ago.

Hundreds of police officers rushed to the scene, but found nothing.

And workers on the building were ordered to stay where they were, after the false alarm on Thursday morning.

Roads near the complex were also closed and nearby buildings evacuated.

On September 16, 2013, Aaron Alexis, a 34-year-old former Navy reservist and IT contractor, opened fire in an office building at the Navy Yard, paralyzing the US capital before he was killed by police.

In a rampage that lasted about an hour, he killed 12 people with the gun he had purchased two days earlier.
