At least 11 people have been killed and tens of others wounded in a shoe factory that collapsed in eastern China.

The incident took place in the city of Wenling in Zhejiang Province on Saturday, officials said on Sunday.

The building collapse left about 33 people wounded.

Reports say rescue workers initially pulled 42 people from the ruins before transferring them to hospitals. But nine of them died in the hospital.

The cause of the collapse is still under investigation.

Last April, a five-story apartment block collapsed in Zhejiang, leaving a number of people killed and wounded.

Experts say shoddily constructed buildings and poor inspections are to blame for such incidents.
