At least 14 people have been killed at a busy market in Chad’s capital city of N’Djamena in a bombing attack.

The bombing took place on Saturday at about 8:45 a.m. (0745 GMT) at the entrance to the market, where an attacker who had been stopped for security checks detonated his explosives.

According to police spokesman Paul Manga, nine female traders and five men, including a policeman, lost their lives in the blast.

On June 15, two bomb attacks at a police academy and the city’s main police station killed nearly 40 people. Nigeria’s Boko Haram Takfiri militants claimed the deadly blasts.

Nigeria attacks

Meanwhile, in Nigeria, Chad's southwestern neighbor, Takfiri militant on Friday night launched an attack on the village of Ngamdu, some 100 kilometers (63 miles) from Maiduguri, killing 11 people.

"We had just finished our evening prayers when Boko Haram gunmen invaded our village," said resident Kyari Sanda, adding, "They opened fire instantly. We lost 11 people and now almost half our village was set ablaze. They took all of our supplies."

Also on Saturday, another attack in Maiduguri, the volatile capital of Nigeria’s Borno State, left two pedestrians dead.

Boko Haram, whose name means Western education is forbidden, has claimed responsibility for a number of deadly shooting attacks and bombings in Nigeria since the beginning of its operation in 2009. The group’s deadly militancy has so far killed at least 15,000 people and left over 1.5 million others homeless.

In February, Nigeria, Niger, Chad and Cameroon formed a coalition and reportedly managed to drive the militants from captured towns and villages in their offensive.

Boko Haram has pledged allegiance to the ISIL terrorist group, which mainly operates in Syria and Iraq. The Nigerian militant group has intensified its campaign of terror since President Mohammadu Buhari came to power on May 29.

Boko Haram says its main objective is to overthrow the Abuja government.
