US can never be trusted in its foreign policy because of Israel: Journalist

The US government cannot be trusted in fulfilling its nuclear agreements with Iran, some analysts say.

The US government cannot be trusted in fulfilling its nuclear obligations with Iran because American politicians are beholden to Israel, a journalist and political commentator in Toronto says.

“The Americans are backpedaling somewhat on the nuclear accord, this is standard duplicity on the part of American politicians. They don’t seem committed to anything,” said Brandon Martinez.

“So if they don’t follow on this Iran deal, this would just confirm for the world that America can never be trusted in its foreign policy,” Martinez told Press TV on Monday.

“Its dealings with foreign countries have shown to be untrustworthy; they’ve in the past made agreements with other nations only to break those agreements,” he added.

Martinez made the remarks after US Defense Secretary Ashton Carter said en route to Israel Sunday that the “military option” against Iran remains despite the nuclear accord.

The Canadian journalist said Carter’s two-day visit to Israel is a typical move by senior US officials to pledge their firm commitment to Tel Aviv.

Carter visited Tel Aviv on Monday in an attempt to ease concerns of the key ally over the nuclear agreement with Iran.

The Pentagon chief met with Israel's Minister of Military Affairs Moshe Ya’alon on Monday and will meet with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday before traveling to Saudi Arabia and Jordan.

Carter’s visit marks the first Cabinet-level US trip to the Middle East following the historic conclusion of nuclear talks between Iran and the P5+1 group of countries—the US, UK, France, Russia, China and Germany—last week.

“The Americans are under the occupation [of Israel], the American government is very much beholden to the Zionist lobby in America led by AIPAC which funds the campaigns, spends hundreds of millions of dollars to finance American politicians,” Martinez said.

“Every single US congressperson, when they enter Congress, they have to sign a pledge guaranteeing Israel’s military superiority and this is something that if you don’t do, you will not receive the financing that other candidates do and will have a very slim chance of making it into office,” he noted.
