US President Barack Obama says diplomacy towards Tehran is "by far our strongest approach” in dealing with Iran’s nuclear program as the UN Security Council backs conclusion of nuclear talks between the Islamic republic and the global powers..

Obama referred to the passage of a Security Council resolution on Iran earlier on Monday, saying the move sends "a clear message that the overwhelming number of countries."

The US president made the comments at the outset of an Oval Office meeting with the new Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari.

Earlier in the day, all the 15 members of the Council voted for the draft resolution in New York, setting the stage for the lifting of sanctions against Iran.

The fact that the landmark conclusion is backed by the Council means there is a broad consensus over the agreement, Obama said, further voicing hope that the US Congress "will pay attention to that broad-based consensus."

On Sunday, the US State Department announced that it sent the text of the nuclear conclusion struck between Iran and the P5+1 group to the Republican-weighted Congress, giving the American lawmakers 60 days to review it.

Reached last Tuesday between Iran and the P5+1 -- the US, Britain, Russia, China, France, and Germany --, the conclusion put an end to years of negotiations on Iran’s nuclear program.

Majority of Americans back conclusion

The Congress will vote on the nuclear agreement as the majority of Americans are said to be supportive of the nuclear conclusion.

A poll results released by ABC News and Washington Pos earlier in the day, showed that 56 percent of the Americans back the conclusion. However, only 35 percent of the people are “Confident” that the agreement will work.

Based on the nuclear conclusion, limits will be put on Iran’s nuclear activities in exchange for the removal of sanctions, including all economic and financial bans, against the Islamic Republic.
