US presidential candidate Donald Trump’s campaign for the Republican nomination is aimed at promoting his vast business empire, a political commentator and radio host in New York City says.
“Donald Trump as a candidate for president began and may still wind up being as a public relations stunt to improve the value of his brand,” said Don DeBar.
“Donald Trump is not the person that is presented to the world as a mega-millionaire American entrepreneur, Donald Trump is a brand,” DeBar told Press TV on Tuesday.
The billionaire businessman and reality television star has surged into the lead in the Republican race for US president, a news poll shows.
With almost twice the support of his closest rival, Trump was the favorite for 24 percent of registered Republican and Republican-leaning independent voters, according to a Washington Post-ABC News poll released on Monday.
The poll shows that Trump has gained a sixfold increase in his support since late May. His popularity is the biggest lead recorded by any Republican candidate this year in Post-ABC News polls.
DeBar said Trump’s race for the White House is an attempt to revive his business ventures in Atlantic City, New Jersey, including gambling and prostitution, which suffered a rapid decline during the past decade.
“He’s the face of a bunch of financial interests that develop real estate, that were heavily invested in places like Atlantic City, casino and other things and he was built up to personify these other interest who for some reason or another apparently prefer to remain anonymous,” he said.
“The casinos in Atlantic City are bust, the city is in a rapid decline for having bet its future on casinos which really didn’t benefit large parts of the population there anyway, except for employment in jobs like prostitution and drug dealing,” DeBar pointed out.
