Passengers are facing delays of around three hours after what Eurotunnel has described as migrant activity. The operators had to suspend services on both sides of the channel overnight to deal with the problem.

Eurotunnel are warning passenger that they are facing delays of approximately three hours after what they are calling migrant activity overnight.

On Friday night Eurotunnel had no choice but to suspend services on either side of the Channel. The delays were about 60 minutes before checking in and approximately two hours at the terminal itself. The impact these delays are having on freight companies and the UK economy is somewhat astounding.

James Hookham from the Freight Transport Association believes the delays are costing three quarters of a million pounds every day. He said,  "It's a big number and it's certainly of national significance because what is in that queue is the exports of the United Kingdom. It's not just a Kent and south east England problem, what we're looking at is delays and costs to the whole economy."

Eurotunnel believe the migrant activity was well thought out and planned. The desperation for many of these people was plain to see as some were willing to jump on to trains travelling at speeds of 90mph. Talks are being held between MP's, Kent County council, Kent Police and firms dealing with Cross channel travel in the hope of finding a solution to the problem.

Damian Green, the Conservative MP for Ashford and a former immigration minister said, "It ought to be possible to protect the Eurotunnel terminal at Coquelles that is not an impossible policing task. I know our government is urging very hard the French government to meet its responsibilities there."

With their being approximately 5000 migrants in Calais aiming to cross over the border the government will be hoping to find a solution to this ever growing problem.
