At least five people, including two police officers, have been killed and six others injured in ongoing suspected terrorist attacks in India’s northern state of Punjab, sources say.
A group of three to five gunmen dressed in army uniforms hijacked a car, opened fire at a bus and stormed a police station in the town of Dinanagar in Punjab’s Gurdaspur district on Monday, security officials said.
Army commandos later rushed to the scene, which is close to the border with Pakistan, and launched an operation against the assailants, who were reportedly holed up in the police barracks.
“We are not sure if the attackers inside the police station are holding some hostages. It is a live, developing situation,” local police spokesperson Rajvinder Singh told the state-run All India Radio.

A senior police officer said the attackers were believed to have come from the Indian-controlled Kashmir. But, according to the Indian intelligence agency, they came from Pakistan.
Separately, police forces reportedly discovered five bombs on a railway track at the Dinanagar railway station. The train services in the area have been suspended.
