Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif says the Tel Aviv regime has been the main beneficiary of terrorism in the region and is the main threat to the Middle East.

During a meeting with his Syrian counterpart, Walid al-Muallem, in Tehran on Wednesday, Zarif called for the active and responsible participation of all regional countries to fight terrorism, saying the Tel Aviv regime is the main threat in the Middle East and benefits the most from the spread of terrorism in the region.

Iran’s top diplomat said Tehran will continue to support anti-Israeli resistance in the region.

Elsewhere in his remarks, the Iranian foreign minister touched upon the recent agreement between Iran and the P5+1 group of counties over Tehran’s nuclear program, saying the conclusion contributes to the security and stability of the region.

He also hailed the resistance of the Syrian nation and government in the face of Takfiri terrorist groups, saying that the crisis in the Arab country can be settled only through diplomacy.

Muallem, for his part, voiced Damascus’ gratitude for Tehran’s support for the Syrian people and government in their fight against terrorism.

Peace and security can be reestablished in Syria only if certain countries change their stance toward the crisis in the Arab country and engage in genuine battle against ISIL and other terrorist groups, Muallem said.

He also stated that the Syrian government has always held negotiations with unarmed opposition groups which seek to preserve the country’s sovereignty and solidarity.

The conflict of the past more than four years in Syria has reportedly killed an estimated 230,000 people, including nearly 11,500 children.
