Palestinian political parties have lashed out at the Tel Aviv regime for its ongoing abuse and torture of Palestinian inmates at Israeli jails.

The representatives of several major Palestinian political parties including Hamas, Fatah, Islamic Jihad, the Democratic Front and the Popular Front attended a joint press conference outside the International Red Cross headquarters in the Gaza Strip on Thursday, censuring Israel for adopting inhumane measures against Palestinian prisoners.

“Palestinian prisoners in Israeli prisons are exposed to harassment, continuous torture and attacks and isolation between cells,” said a joint statement by the Palestinian parties, which was read out loud by Hamas Spokesman Abdel Rahman Shadeed.

Shadeed also called on Palestinian resistance movements to take a “decisive action” to support the cause of Palestinian prisoners, many of whom have been on hunger strike for days to protest their conditions at Israeli jails.

“We cannot be silent in the face of this Israeli repression and the [Palestinian] Authority must raise the case of prisoners with the International Criminal Court,” he went on to say.

Earlier in the day, reports said that 120 Palestinian prisoners have staged a hunger strike against their forced removal from one section to another inside a notorious Israeli jail.

Also on Wednesday, Palestinian rights group Asra Center for Prisoner Studies urged the international community to mobilize efforts to pressure the Tel Aviv regime to meet the demands of the Palestinian hunger strikers at Israeli jails.

Last week, Israel’s parliament (Knesset) ratified a law which allowed the force-feeding of Palestinian prisoners who are on hunger strike in Israeli jails.

The law garnered harsh criticism from rights groups that slammed the legislation as a form of torture to silence the Palestinian protesters.
