American freelance journalist Pam Bailey has said that there would be no military solution to the current crisis in Syria and the US has an “extremely short-sighted view of history.”
“There is no military solution to this. All we have to do is look at what is happening in Iraq and Afghanistan for instance. We thought there were military solutions to those situations,” Bailey told Press TV on Friday.
The journalist said Iraq and Afghanistan became "more unstable" after US invasions.
“We don’t seem to learn that lesson,” she continued. “A lot of innocent people are hurt.”
She made the comments after the United States announced that American fighter jets would be flying over the Syrian territory within days in the wake of the Turkish government's green-light to the Pentagon to fly manned aircraft out of airbases in the country.
Pentagon spokesman Capt. Jeff Davis said on Thursday that preparations are underway to bring manned aircraft to the Incirlik Air Base, near the southern city of Adana in Turkey.
Following years of reluctance to take a direct role against the ISIL terrorist group, Turkey officially agreed to open its air bases to Washington last month.
“Sending in drones, sending in warplanes, sending in more weapons is not going to solve this problem,” Bailey said.
“The only solution is we have to figure out how to end the war there,” she said.
