War remaining agenda of US imperialism : Author

US President Barack Obama purports to be fighting warmongering lobbyists who are trying to scuttle the Iran nuclear agreement, while he keeps the military option on the table, says a political analyst and author from California.

Ralph Schoenman made the comments in an interview with Press TV on Sunday when asked about Obama’s recent speech in which he said he would push against AIPAC over the Iran nuclear agreement.

In a White House meeting with leaders of AIPAC, Obama accused the Israel lobby of spending millions of dollars to spread false claims about the Iran deal and said that “he intended to hit back hard.”

“What is ominous about the speech is not only that he attempts to attack what he calls the lobbyists who are pressing for what a great section of the American military already has determined to do which is to open an attack on Iran and an expansion of the attack to even include Russia or China,” said Schoenman, the author of Hidden History of Zionism.

“But, he (Obama) is stating that the intent is something he has in his mind as well when he attempts to shift the Iranian government to support what the United States is doing while keeping the military option on the table,” he added.

“I think it’s important to emphasize that even in the process of attempting to impose this series of American demands on Iran and thereby avoid what he calls the necessity of a war, he’s holding on to the specter of a war at a later time,” Schoenman stated.

“That’s an important dimension of this conflict which is a matter of tactics and strategy in the part of imperialism and not at all the matter of principle of opposition to domination of other countries, exploitation of their resources, and their invasion and decimation by the US military, that remains the essential thrust of the US imperialism,” he concluded.

“Whether or not... the arrangement for what is called the Iran deal is successful or not," Schoenman said, “the remaining agenda of the US imperialism is war by one means or another.”
