Five children and three adults have been found shot to death at a home in northwest Harris County, Texas, according to a local media.
A suspect was arrested and is now in police custody, authorities said.
Following a welfare check at a home on Fallbrook at Veterans Memorial at around 9:30 pm, deputies arrived at the home and tried to get someone to answer the door, but nobody opened the door.
"After several repeated times to get someone to come in the door, more information was obtained that a male was inside the home, who had a warrant for aggravated assault of a family member," said Deputy Thomas Gilliland with the Harris County Sheriff's Office.
A high-risk operations unit was called to the scene and upon their arrival, they surrounded the home. In the meantime, deputies, who were looking through a window, saw a juvenile lying “dead on the floor.”
Officers then stormed the house to see the suspect inside, who then opened fire at them. The suspect was arrested following a standoff that lasted until around 12:30 am.
Police have not provided any information as to how the people died and their relationships were not known yet.
Over 6,000 people have been killed and over 13,000 people have been injured by gun in the United States since January 1, 2015, according to the Gun Violence Archive.
Under President Barack Obama, however, gun production soared 140 percent, reaching 10.8 million firearms in 2013, the most recent year for which data is available.
