Two Russian astronauts at the International Space Station (ISS) ventured outside for a spacewalk to install some equipment and check the exterior.
During a five-and-a-half hour spacewalk on Monday, Gennady Padalka, 57, who serves as the commander of the ISS, and 55-year-old Mikhail Kornienko mounted devices that will facilitate the movement of crew on future spacewalks.
“They also will clean residue off of the windows of the Zvezda Service Module, install fasteners on communications antennas, replace an aging antenna used for the rendezvous and docking of visiting vehicles at Russian docking ports, and photograph a variety of locations and hardware on Zvezda and nearby modules,” said NASA, adding that this is the 188th spacewalk for the station assembly and maintenance.
Padalka has the world record for the most time spent in space with a total of 803 days.
