UK security forces have arrested five people on suspicion of terrorism offence in eastern London.
The detained suspects are members of the same family and include a 51-year-old man, two women aged 53 and 19, and two girls of 16 and 17, the Guardian reported on Wednesday.
They have been arrested on suspicion of “possessing information likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism,” UK police authorities said.
All of the suspects are in custody at a police station in central London
Scotland Yard reiterated that the arrests were part of an ongoing probe which saw a 16-year-old girl detained on July 2. The girl was arrested on suspicion of preparation of terrorism.
The latest arrests are believed to be linked to extremists travelling to Syria.
Back in May, Scotland Yard announced that hundreds of potential terror suspects who traveled to Syria are believed to have come back in the UK.
Police say around half of more than 700 suspects who made the journey to the war-torn country have already returned.
A recently-published research study has revealed that at least 50 British nationals have been killed fighting for terrorists in Syria and Iraq withing the past three years.
