Suspected Nigeria-based Boko Haram Takfiri militants have attacked a town in northern Cameroon, killing at least ten people.

A local Cameroonian security source said on Thursday that the raid was carried out on Wednesday in the town of Blame, located near the border with Nigeria.

Two Cameroonian soldiers are among those killed in the remote region. The eight other victims were civilians.

The militants reportedly set fire to several houses in the violence-hit town, which lies near Lake Chad, before retreating to Nigeria.

The attack came a day after a Cameroonian soldier was killed and two others wounded in another Boko Haram ambush in the troubled northern Cameroon.

Boko Haram militants have been behind many similar assaults in the region this year.

On August 4, militants attacked the villages of Tchakamari and Kangaleri located in the Far North region of Cameroon, killing at least nine people and kidnapping dozens of others.

At least eleven people were also killed in a double blast in the northern Cameroonian city of Maroua on July 22.

A large number of the militants are hiding out in Lake Chad, a shallow water body dotted with hundreds of islets, and in Nigeria's Sambisa Forest near the border with Cameroon.

Boko Haram started its campaign of terror in Nigeria in 2009. The Takfiri group's militancy has claimed the lives of some 15,000 people over the past years.

The violence has spilled over into Nigeria’s neighboring countries. Soldiers from Nigeria, Chad, Cameroon and Niger have been battling the terrorists in recent months.

Nigeria's neighbors which have all suffered attacks by Boko Haram set up a regional force earlier this year to end the conflict.

Boko Haram's leader Abubakar Shekau has repeatedly threatened to attack Niger and Chad and other countries that have joined forces against the militants.
