Police have arrested a former reporter in relation to the shooting death of two American journalists in an on-air interview in Virginia, taking him to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Vester Lee Flanagan, who is known professionally as Bryce Williams, was identified by the Augusta County Sheriff's office on Wednesday.
Reporter Alison Parker and cameraman Adam Ward from local CBS news station WDBJ were killed when a man opened fire on them as they were filming a live segment in Moneta, Bedford County early Wednesday morning.
Williams apparently posted videos of the shooting to his social media accounts.
The chilling video was accompanied by statements accusing Parker of “racist comments” and Ward of reporting Williams to human resources.
The Virginia State Police spotted the suspect at 11:30 a.m. and tried to pull him over but he sped away before his car "ran off the road and crashed," ABC News reported.
When they approached the vehicle, they "found the male driver suffering from a gunshot wound," and he has been transported to a nearby hospital, state police said.
WDBJ general manager Jeffrey Marks confirmed that Williams used to work at the station but he was dismissed two years ago.
Williams was "an unhappy man" and was dismissed after he "quickly became known for a reputation for being difficult to work with," he added.

ABC News said it has received a fax from someone claiming to be Bryce Williams sometime between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. It was apparently a lengthy document of 23 pages which the ABC News has turned it over to authorities.
White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest called the shooting “another example of gun violence that is becoming all too common in communities large and small all across the United States.”
“Obviously the thoughts and prayers of everybody here at the White House are with the families of those who were injured and killed. The precise details of threat incident continue to be under investigation,” he said.
