Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) speaks during a live interview with MSNBC on September 15, 2015.

US Senate hawk John McCain has attacked the administration of President Barack Obama over a refugee crisis in Europe.

The Republican senator told MSNBC on Tuesday that Obama’s “failed policy” in Syria has led to the influx of thousands of asylum seekers to Europe.

The refugees are mostly from Syria and other war-ravaged countries like Libya, where violence by the terrorists of Daesh and other Takfiris is at its peak.

Since the beginning of the year, 432,761 refugees have attempted to cross the Mediterranean in an attempt to reach Europe and 2,748 have died.

Disregarding the United States’ role in bringing about such crises in the region, the hawkish senator said the situation is Syria was a result of the “abdication of American responsibility which has caused this tragedy and it’s on the hands of Barack Obama.”

McCain referred to the “colossal failure of the American leadership” in the region, further blaming the government of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad for the influx of asylum seekers.

Assad’s forces have restlessly been battling the terrorists, originally trained and funded by US and its regional allies.

The Syrian army forces are backed by Russia, which has been aiding Damascus in its fight against terrorism.

The Russians are “taking advantage again of American weakness,” said the Republican senator, adding, “They’re going to bolster him (Assad) up with their air power, troops, and armor.”

The US has been launching airstrikes allegedly against ISIL in Syria and Iraq but to no avail.
