US Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton has raised more than $28 million in the last three months, bringing her campaign contributions to a total of $75 million.
She still falls short of her record $47.5 million raised during the previous fundraising quarter and edges past the more than $24 million collected by her Democratic opponent Senator Bernie Sanders, who has surged in the polls in early voting states.
Campaign aides said her total fundraising haul since entering the race means Clinton is on pace to meet her long-standing goal of raising $100 million this year.
“Thanks to our supporters, we are able to meet our goals and build an organization that can mobilize millions of voters to ensure Hillary Clinton is their fighter in the White House,” campaign manager Robby Mook said in a statement Wednesday.
According to campaign officials, 93 percent of Clinton’s donations between July 1 and September 30 came in amounts of $100 or less and more than 60 percent of the donors were women.
Her aides did not release details on how much Clinton has already spent.
Meanwhile, former President Bill Clinton urged his wife’s supporters to donate as little as $1 apiece.
Clinton, the front-runner for the Democratic nomination in the 2016 election, has struggled to shake off lingering questions about her use of a private email server while she was secretary of state.
Although Clinton has apologized for the email practice, the controversy has dented her support among some Democrats and helped bolster Sanders’ campaign.
