United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has praised the nuclear agreement recently clinched between Iran and the P5+1 group, saying the world body is ready for any cooperation to facilitate the implementation of the accord.
In a Monday meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in New York, Ban described the Iran-P5+1 agreement, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), as a successful step toward the establishment of regional and global peace.
Ban said the UN and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) are prepared to help with the JCPOA’s implementation.

Iran and the P5+1 – the US, Russia, China, France, Britain and Germany – finalized the text of the JCPOA in the Austrian capital, Vienna, on July 14.
Under the agreement, limits will be put on Iran’s nuclear activities in exchange for, inter alia, the removal of all economic and financial bans against the Islamic Republic.
Regional crises
During their Monday meeting, Zarif and Ban further discussed regional issues, including the crises in Syria, Yemen, Iraq and Lebanon.
Referring to Iran’s special position in the region, the UN chief called for closer cooperation between Iran and the world body on the settlement of crises.
Zarif, for his part, rejected military action as a solution to the conflicts in the region, saying Iran has always favored a political solution to end the crises.
The Islamic Republic will continue to work with the UN in an effort to help end the chaos in the region through political dialog, the Iranian foreign minister said.
