UK police say a British family of seven who travelled to Turkey could be trying to reach Syria.

According to police, Imran and Farzana Ameen and their five children, aged five to 15, were reported missing on Tuesday. A relative said they feared the family had headed for a "war zone".

Officers said the family is believed to have flown to Antalya but their current whereabouts are unknown.

Relatives say the strange thing is that the family members never said goodbye to anyone.

Last month, UK police said a family believed to be travelling from London to Syria had been arrested in Turkey. British security sources believed that they were heading to Syria to join Daesh terrorist militants.

Back in April, Turkish security forces arrested a British family of six, who were seeking to cross the border into violence-plagued Syria and join the ranks of the Daesh Takfiri militant group.

At least 600 Britons are estimated to have slipped into Syria to wage war against the government of President Bashar al-Assad since 2011.

Turkey has been accused of failing to control its 900-kilometer (560-mile) long border with Syria and allowing terrorists easy passage. Ankara has in turn complained that European police forces have been slow to share information on extremists traveling through the country.
