A man in his 40s has been shot dead by police after a standoff in Cambridgeshire, an East Anglian county in England.
Firearms officers fatally shot the man after they were called in to a property in Duck Lane, St. Neots on the Wednesday evening.
The victim was declared dead at the scene. No other death or injuries were caused by the police action.

It was not immediately known what prompted the standoff between the victim and other occupants inside the house.
Soon after the incident, the police launched an investigation into the shooting. “The man’s next of kin have been informed of his death and the area will remain cordoned off for some time whilst investigators undertake the scene management process”, a police spokesman said.
The spokesman called it “inappropriate” to comment further on the shooting incident at this stage.

The shooting comes just days after police shot a man dead in North London which is believed to be the first such fatality in the hands of police in four years. On Sunday evening, officers reached the area after receiving reports of a man in possession of a firearm and making death threats.
According to Scotland Yard, the man left the before the police arrived at the property. However, two hours later, armed police caught up with the unidentified man in Enfield. The police claim that a 43-year-old white male was shot dead and a firearm was discovered at the scene.
