The US government’s decision to deploy a group of special forces in Syria will only result in more bloodshed and incite more hatred of the United States, an American political analyst says.
“We are going to see a lot more American soldiers being killed, and we will see a lot more hatred being generated as a result of this,” William Jones, an analyst with the Executive Intelligence Review, told Press TV on Sunday.
Jones made the remarks when asked about US President Barack Obama’s decision to escalate the military involvement in Syria.
Obama said Friday that he was sending about 50 Special Operations troops to northern Syria to work with Kurdish and Arab fighters battling the Assad government.
Jones pointed to the recent Vienna talks where the US Secretary of State John Kerry met with key regional players including Russia and Iran to end the conflict in Syria.
He said Obama’s military escalation in Syria “is really a tragic, comic development which shows that this administration is headless at this point.”
“Einstein said that if you continue to do the same thing and think that you are going to have a different effect that is the definition of insanity. Obama is of course moving in that direction of sending military forces in the region to achieve so-called peace, we know exactly where that is going to end up at," he noted.
“The cause of these wars, the intervention that occurred earlier by [former President George W.] Bush in Iraq and by Obama in Libya, this has caused total chaos in the region and that shows total lack of strategy,” he noted.
Jones compared the situation to that of the Vietnam War, where the intervention began with a few “advisers” and then spiraled into a full-blown war.
“One of the problems is the existence of American soldiers on the ground [which] has caused a lot of the discontent and the hatred in the region,” he noted.
“Hopefully these decisions can be reversed and that some sanity can be brought back to decision-making here in Washington,” he added. “Maybe we will have to wait till the end of Obama before that happens, but unless it does, we are on the straight road to hell.”
