The United States says Americans are among those injured in the Friday terror attacks in the French capital, but it is unclear if any US nationals are among the fatalities.
The US State Department said in a statement on Saturday that “we are aware there are Americans among the injured, and are offering them the full range of consular assistance."
Scores of people were killed in multiple coordinated attacks on Friday in one of the deadliest assaults to hit Paris since the World War II.
"The US government is working closely with French authorities to identify American victims,” said the department spokesperson, Mark Toner. He added that the US Embassy in Paris is working "around the clock to assist Americans affected by this tragedy."
The department further said it was seeking to establish the whereabouts of 70 US citizens known to be in France.
At least 127 people have been killed and three hundred others hospitalized, including 90 in critical condition, according to AFP.
The Daesh (ISIL) Takfiri terrorist group has claimed responsibility for the attacks. It released an online audio statement in Arabic and French on Saturday, saying the attack was the “first of the storm and a warning to those who wish to learn.”
