Fighter jets from France’s Charles de Gaulle nuclear aircraft carrier have carried out their first strikes on Daesh Takfiri terrorist positions in Syria and Iraq.

The sorties were launched on Takfiri targets in Syria and the Iraqi cities of Ramadi and Mosul, the French Defense Ministry said on Monday.

The aerial operations in Iraq were "in support of ground forces that were pushing against troops of (Daesh)," AFP quoted French Army Chief of Staff General Pierre de Villiers as saying from aboard the carrier.

The Defense Ministry added that four Rafale jets from the carrier had commenced operations in the northern Syrian city of Raqqah in which “an active site occupied by terrorist" militants was destroyed.
