There’s plenty going on at this year’s international Ice and Snow festival in the city of Harbin in China.
Artists from around the world have been competing in an ice sculpture contest as part of the annual event.
Some 30 teams from eleven countries have taken part in the three day contest. Participants made every effort to carve their ice blocks into artistic pieces.
They started off by drawing outlines, then cutting the ice with an electric saw, followed by carving the desired shape with special tools. And if all that were not enough, electric clothes-irons are often used to smooth ice surfaces.
The event was established in 1985 and lasts for over one month every year. This is China's greatest ice artwork festival and attracts hundreds of thousands of local and foreign visitors.
