Hundreds of pro-Palestinian protesters marched through Athens on Saturday, waving Palestinian flags, holding banners and chanting slogans against Israel's military actions in Gaza, as part of a worldwide day of demonstrations in solidarity with Palestinians.
The demonstrators gathered in the center of Athens before marching towards the Israeli embassy, calling for an end to the violence and demanding justice for Palestinians. The protest was organized by Palestinian community groups, trade unions, students and anti-war organizations.
According to organizers, the demonstration was part of a coordinated global day of action involving more than 200 organizations across over 60 countries. Similar demonstrations were organized in several other Greek cities, including Thessaloniki, Patras and Chania.
Organizers also condemned the Greek government's support for Israel and its cooperation with the United States, following a visit to Athens earlier this week by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. The Stop the War Alliance, one of the groups behind the demonstration, called for Greece to end its involvement in US and Israeli military policies in the region.
