The United Nations special rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the occupied Palestinian territory has expressed concern over daily acts of “terror” committed against Palestinians, urging the European Union to take action against “apartheid” Israel.
Francesca Albanese made the remarks amid intensifying settler violence against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank.
“I am shocked by the political inertia in the face of what Israelis --settlers and soldiers-- are doing in Palestine, where terror has become a daily reality,” Albanese said in a post on her account on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday.
“In the West Bank, torching century-old trees and poisoning livestock,” she added.
Albanese also wondered, “When will the EU take action against Apartheid Israel?”

Approximately 750,000 settlers inhabit 141 unauthorized settlements and 224 settlement outposts throughout the occupied West Bank, which includes around 250,000 individuals in occupied East al-Quds.
Since the onset of Israel’s genocidal war on the Gaza Strip in October 2023, the West Bank has experienced a persistent increase in Israeli military offensives and assaults by settlers, coupled with the proliferation of unlawful settlement outposts, development of roads exclusively for settlers, and stricter limitations on the movement of Palestinians.
The attacks have resulted in the deaths and abduction of thousands of Palestinians.
The Western countries have come under fierce criticism for failing to take action against Israel’s genocide in Gaza and the settler violence in the West Bank.
