US Indigenous Peoples’ Day

This episode looks at the historical legacy of violence and displacement, and its echoes in US and Israeli crimes across West Asia today.

October 12 marks Indigenous Peoples’ Day in the United States, an occasion that brings renewed attention to the history of massacres, forced displacement, and other abuses suffered by Native Americans.

In 2019, California Governor Gavin Newsom formally apologized to Native Americans for the state’s historical violence and mistreatment of Indigenous communities.

The day also prompts scrutiny of contemporary US and Israeli cromes, including the US-led invasion of Iraq, two wars imposed on Iran by the US and the Israeli regime, and the committing of war crimes across West Asia.

These are among the issues we’ll be exploring with our guests in this edition of the program.
