A national strike by public sector workers in Ireland paralyzed parliament proceedings, after workers carried out a 24-hour strike in protest against the government's refusal to enter into constructive negotiations over a pay agreement.
Employees gathered in front of Leinster House, the seat of the Irish parliament in the capital Dublin, in a move expected to include about 300,000 public sector workers.
The strike led to the cancellation of today's scheduled session of the Irish lower house of parliament, the Dáil, amid rising disagreement between unions and the government over the pay file.
