The head of Iran’s top legislative-arbitration body says the results of the US midterm congressional elections were a resounding “no” to Donald Trump’s warmongering policies against Iran.
Ayatollah Sadegh Larijani Amoli, who heads Iran’s Expediency Council, said on Wednesday that the outcome of the US midterm elections marked another failure and defeat for the ruling Republican Party and US President Donald Trump over his war of aggression against Iran.
“The president and his party have lost control of both the Senate and the House of Representatives. He himself acknowledged that Iran had played a part in this defeat,” Larijani Amoli said.
The senior cleric said, however, that the opposition Democratic Party should learn a lesson from Trump’s failed policies toward Iran and seek to change course.
“Although the track record of the political faction that has now taken control of Congress, much like that of its rival, suggests that it will largely maintain the existing course of US foreign policy, today's election was a resounding ‘no’ and a kind of referendum on America's warmongering policies,” Larijani Amoli said.
“If the victorious party is willing to learn from the outcome, it will heed the message of this referendum and clearly see where warmongering leads.”
The cleric said Trump remained obstinate and unwilling to fully acknowledge the impact of his war against Iran on his political fate, more than eight months after launching a joint aggression against the country with the Israeli regime.
“This is the very vile arrogance that our nation has stood up against: a power that listens neither to international law nor to human conscience, and now not even to the vote of its own people,” he said.
