A rights organization says Palestinians abducted from the Gaza Strip are being subjected to brutal torture in Israeli prisons, including electric shocks and deliberate starvation.

In a report on Thursday, the Palestinian Prisoner’s Club said that violence against the Gaza abductees comes amid Israel's ban prohibiting the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) representatives from visiting Palestinians held in the occupying regime’s jails.

The organization’s director of international relations, Raed Amer, said that the Gazans in Israeli custody endure systematic torture such as severe beatings and continuous verbal abuse around the clock, amid a policy of enforced disappearance and widespread media censorship.

He also warned that the situation of Palestinians in Israeli detention facilities has deteriorated dramatically to unprecedented levels.

Israeli authorities classify those detained from the Gaza Strip as ordinary prisoners without a clearly defined legal status in an attempt to deprive them of all the rights guaranteed under the Geneva Conventions and international law, Amer added.

He further criticized the usurping regime for barring the ICRC from visiting the Gaza abductees for more than three years and deliberately concealing information about their identities and places of detention.

Referring to the situation in the occupied West Bank, he said that the wave of arrests has continued unabated there in recent days, with Israeli forces raiding numerous Palestinian towns, destroying homes and intimidating residents.

Meanwhile, Amer emphasized that in cooperation with legal teams, released detainees, and their families, the Palestinian Prisoners’ Club keeps monitoring and documenting Israeli crimes against Palestinian detainees while pursuing immediate action to end the atrocities.

Roughly 10,000 Palestinians are currently held in Israeli prisons – many without formal charges under the so-called administrative detention.

In a report to the UN Human Rights Council in March, Francesca Albanese, the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian territory occupied since 1967, condemned Israel for systematically torturing Palestinians on a scale “that suggests collective vengeance and destructive intent”.

Entitled “Torture and genocide”, the report said, that since October 7, 2023, when the Israeli regime began a genocidal war on Gaza, Palestinians in custody “have been subjected to exceptionally ruthless physical and psychological abuse.”
