US Congresswoman Yassamin Ansari has condemned President Donald Trump’s latest threat to launch further attacks on Iran and “destroy” the rest of the country, saying he is threatening the annihilation of a nation of 90 million people.

“He’s once again threatening the annihilation of a country of 90 million people. A crime against humanity,” Ansari wrote on X on Thursday.

She called on Democrats to take urgent action to end Trump’s “reckless war of choice.”

“Democrats must work urgently to end Trump’s reckless war of choice when we take back the House and the Senate. Enough is enough,” she said.

Her remarks came after Trump said he would prefer not to destroy the rest of Iran but warned that he might have to, adding that people would “know soon enough.” The US president has also claimed that rebuilding the country would take 25 years.

The threat forms part of a sustained pattern of inflammatory rhetoric by the Trump administration since the United States and the Israeli regime launched their illegal war of aggression against the Islamic Republic in February 2026.

Previous statements threatening strikes on civilian infrastructure, power plants, bridges, and desalination facilities have been formally denounced by Tehran as deliberate war crimes, with Iranian representatives filing complaints at the United Nations documenting the public evidence of intent.

Iranian military and political officials have repeatedly warned that any renewed aggression would be met with a swift, decisive, and comprehensive response.

Commanders have stressed that a future war would have “no geographical limitations,” with a broad operational scope defined to inflict damage on the aggressors and achieve full deterrence.

Officials have dismissed Trump’s threats as delusional and the product of US strategic humiliation in West Asia, rather than any realistic military advantage.

Ansari’s intervention reflects growing dissent within the US Congress over the unauthorized war. Democratic Representative Ro Khanna has repeatedly described the campaign as an “illegal, unconstitutional war of choice,” co-sponsoring War Powers resolutions with Republican Representative Thomas Massie to force a congressional vote and halt further military action. Khanna has stated that the House and Senate should cut funding for additional operations in Iran, comparing the situation to efforts that eventually ended the Vietnam War.

Other lawmakers, including Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, have previously labeled unilateral strikes without congressional authorization as grave violations of the Constitution and potential grounds for impeachment.

Independent Senator Bernie Sanders has introduced legislation prohibiting the use of federal funds for military action against Iran without explicit congressional approval, arguing that the United States must not be dragged into wars of choice driven by external pressure.

The midterm elections, which delivered control of both chambers of Congress to Democrats amid voter anger over elevated fuel prices and the broader costs of the conflict, have intensified scrutiny of the administration’s approach.

Ansari, the Iranian-American representative for Arizona’s Third District, has been among the most vocal critics, previously calling for the 25th Amendment and introducing articles of impeachment against War Secretary Pete Hegseth over the conduct of the war.

Such threats against the civilian population and national infrastructure of a sovereign state constitute clear violations of the UN Charter and international humanitarian law. They have only reinforced the determination of the Iranian nation to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity against external aggression.
