Head of the Executive Council of Hezbollah, Sheikh Ali Damoush, says Democrats’ sweep to victory in the 2026 US midterm elections and flipping long-held Republican seats in both chambers of Congress would not change Washington’s hostile policy toward West Asian nations.
The senior Hezbollah official emphasized on Friday that successive US administrations have pursued similar strategies regardless of their political affiliation.
Sheikh Damoush stated that Washington’s policies remain unchanged, and US politicians seek to dominate West Asia and its natural resources at the same time as offering unqualified support for the Israeli regime.
Only the methods differ from one administration to another, he noted.
Sheikh Damoush identified the war of aggression on Iran, the shift in US public opinion about Israel and the Palestinian cause, and the ongoing US-backed Israeli genocide as the factors behind the Republican Party’s defeat in the midterm elections.
He, however, warned that the Democrats’ electoral gains do not translate into any shift in Washington’s policies toward West Asia.
“We see no difference between the Democratic and Republican camps regarding regional issues,” Sheikh Damoush said, adding that the US project of regional hegemony and its support for the Tel Aviv regime remain unchanged.
Turning to Lebanon, the senior Hezbollah official called for an end to US interference in the country’s internal affairs, denouncing Washington for exerting unparalleled influence over its political, security, judicial, and financial affairs while exacerbating divisions among different walks of society.
“The American agenda aims to create discord among the Lebanese. We will not permit this scheme to prevail, and we will oppose it as we have in the past,” he stated.
Sheikh Damoush argued that the US is pressuring Lebanon to disarm the Hezbollah resistance movement while simultaneously offering political protection to Israeli forces, allowing them to continue their acts of violence and destruction in southern Lebanon.
He stated that the US-backed framework agreement effectively legitimizes occupation and aggression, while undermining Lebanon's sovereignty.
“America has never prioritized, and will never prioritize, Lebanon's best interests,” Sheikh Damoush highlighted, describing Washington as the root cause of crises in Lebanon, West Asia, and across the globe.
He cautioned that the US would increase pressure on the Lebanese government to make additional concessions for Israeli objectives.
Sheikh Damoush asserted that the US-backed framework agreement effectively legitimizes occupation and aggression, undermining Lebanon's sovereignty. “America has never prioritized, and will never prioritize, Lebanon's best interests,” he remarked, labeling Washington as the root of crises in Lebanon, the region, and globally.
He cautioned that the US would increase pressure on the Lebanese government to make additional concessions for Israeli objectives.
“We will not yield to any pressure,” Sheikh Damoush emphasized, reaffirming Hezbollah’s right to defend Lebanese territory.
He called on Lebanese authorities to implement measures appropriate to the seriousness of the situation and to view southern Lebanon from a humanitarian and national standpoint, free from US and Israeli influence and political strategies.
He also dismissed assertions that resisting occupation violates the Lebanese Constitution, instead characterizing it as a legitimate national right that cannot be taken away by political, governmental, or judicial decisions.
“The path of resistance will continue regardless of all pressures and challenges. The resistance will go on as long as there is occupation,” Sheikh Damoush stated.
